Folks, A collegue of mine has started a legal prescription on weed, he is able to smoke it without fear of prosecution as it it is medicinal. He tells me that it is good stuff . Now he is not letting management know he is on it and I now have concerns as to his work abilities, concentration and all that, as a spark its dangerous enough going into a mains board etc, etc. Where do we, I stand on such matters.

Alcohol is also legal but you wouldn't drink tins of lager while you were doing a rewire.

Can't believe he thinks it's acceptable to be honest. And neither does he it seems, otherwise he wouldn't hide it from the management.

I doubt there is any truth in this thread. Medical cannabis is rarely prescribed in the UK, only for specific conditions where all other medicines have fails, and it wouldn't come in a smokeable form.

The issue about whether or not the drug he is using is prescribed and legal for him to use is actually of little concern.

If someone is using drugs, prescribed or not, including such things that are legal to take like alcohol or night nurse for instance.
the onus is on them to ensure that the effects of any of these have worn off before starting work.

prescription drugs have an information leaflet that says what the effects are and will often state things like, do not drive or operate machinery.
alcohol is fairly well known as to its effects and how long they last.

If the guy is smoking in the evening and staying off it all day whilst at work, I would probably not concern myself.

however if they are nipping out in the working day for a quick smoke then I would sack him if he worked for me or report him to his boss if not.
Exactly the same would apply if they were taking a couple of cans of strongbow at lunch to make themselves "feel better"

I understand that, however the op suggests that this is being smoked.I am not aware of any product that when smoked, gives you CBD but not THC.
