hi what length off flex can you add to an appliance ie washing machine, tumbel dryre, i cant find any thing in the reg just had a quick look .

i was on a job to day and some one had 2 m added on to a washing machine so the flex was about 3 m long

personaly i would have fitted a socket closer to the appliance

its not in the regs...

grab a copy of the PAT testing booklet by the IEE its in there... i dont have a copy to hand but i belive you can have any thing up to 12m..... see if i can find a copy at work!!

Im not aware of any regulations regarding the lengths of flexible cords on fixed appliances, however I would rather see a new cord fitted as opposed to extending the existing one

In service.......Code of practice is a bit vague, states taped joints are unnaceptable and earth must be continuous and must not exceed the length allowed by the equipment standard.....WTH

So basically I cannot see its a major problem if its done properly!
