Interview yesterday, well established firm starting an electrical division, want to take me on as the first electrician and use me to gain NICEIC membership.

On top of being responsible for all the work that goes on, and obviously for other sparks once they take more on in the near future I will be expected to be on call 24/7 365 days, and cover the whole north of england.

Anybody wish to guess the hourly rate they offered me?

I know cleaners that get more than that and wont get 5% of the hassle and agro that you would, sounds like theyre a bunch of tosrrs rrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!

this sort of thing is realy starting to annoy me now! ive paid a fortune for courses over the years and anything less than rate is not worth the hours and money spent on training.

whats worse is some people are so desperate at the minute these companys can get away with it

been honest i have just offered a flexi job to a peson for 8.50 an hour (adult trainee) with a £% of each job he quotes and wins!! + £% of work he brings in!!

£9ph and you have to supply your own tools, test equipment and pay for your own update courses?

£9 per hour and they seemed to think they were giving me the best deal in the world

you will have enough left after paying petrol for some chips from the chippy and you will get to eat them somwhere in the north west on christmas day in the van lol

Ah! But is that £9 phr for all 8760 hours in a year (for being on call for a year solid) which is £78840 pa. in which case, not bad money.

i would of asked them for petrol and costs for wasting your time going to interveiw including your normal hourly rate charge!

I have done exactly that - and added the parting shot: "People like you shouldn't be allowed to employ people. You should all be working for yourselves!!"

Sometimes, they just need to be told!!

Presumably being on call 24/7/365 would mean you could never have a drink! Think of all the money you'd save!
