Here check these pics of our so called electricians work
If I had been there to supervise he would have gotten his arse kicked up the street until he was wearing it as a hat!

Spot the disasters:-

1) Used black cable cos it was all he had left in his van - no trunking or white cable to do the job properly And how did i know - cos he just chucked his empty reel into my plastics bin

2) Drilled through the double glazing and yip its now lost its vacuum seal

3) Checkout those leccie tails in the cupboard - not even recessed behind the backer board and not soldered or properly connected just scotblocked together i dont even think the tape is electrical - and the kid in our building puts his bike in that cupboard - those tails are live when the time clock switches on

4) Didnt even hoover up his drill mess

He is a plumber when he’s at home, you can tell his wife her bathrooms not getting done before Christmas because he’s not.......just takes some practice ?

When was that rooftop water tank last inspected / tested / cleaned?

Well i was up a few months ago i plan to do a drain and wetvac but I believe 1963.

The problem is the neighbours we dont get on and they are as tivght as a gnarts chuff so its hard to get any work done!

Here check the tanks - lovely - A good reason why you should never drink from the cold water taps in the bathroom lol

Please tell me that that tank is no longer in use.

Been in use since 1963.

And yes that overflow pipe in the centre is covered in what looks like congealed fat and who knows what else and both tanks actualyl have an old wooden cover on em!

There also used to be a heater in that tankhouse peresumably to keep the water from freezing in winter but its burned out now in both tankhouses - health and safety in the 60's eh lol

We currently have issues with the cold water blocking - not flush in the cistern and cold taps not working - I have backflushed it every time there is a blockage but i need to get up there and empty them , wetvac and sort it out as there are two tanks - one on the left feeds the boilers and the one on the right feeds the cold water taps in the bathrooms for all the flats.

Pretty gross eh - not looking forward to putting my arm in either one!

And get this - i have helped every single person in this block from getting them a new laptop by using my company to write off their old one, fixing their pc's and printers,

You know what I’m going to ask, Gary...
I want an HP with i7 processor just so I can beat my daughters i5 on specs. ;)

you get what you pay for , coroner colin will do the job cheaply ,but you want get them back .

Nothing wrong with being a Colin. :)

Well being a tightbutt scotsman i would recommend an alternative method and go for ebay - I recently bought 5 Dell E5530 Core I7 laptops (slight damage) for around £40 each - bunged in a 240gb Integral P-Series SSD (The fastest 240gb ssd by the way - i benchmark em) and added 8gb ram £20 - they have illumianrted keyboards for night use as well as fingerprint reader and great build quality , hdmi out esata and moe sockets than any HP - the metal casing beats any HP - bung a free copy of windows 10 and yeehhaaa runs like ordure off a shovel!

The thing is to look for bulk sellers who have bought loads at auctions or companies getting rid there are some real bargains to be had - I never buy new its a false economy like buying a new car!

Get yourself a PR02X docking station for £4.99 and that will make your daughter jealous and the best part - less than a tun for it all!

Take the dvd cd drive out and stick in a converter cage with a 1tb conventional HDU and you have an instant backup solution and storage area away from your boot disk.

Best laptop i have ever owned - sold the others for £120 each and thats cheap.

HP - well i am a bit of a Dell fan even the old D600 series were great although they had the notorious Nvidia Gfx chip fault i still have 3 of em!

HP HP well i can't really recommend em anymore as i dont use em now.
But try hotukdeals.co.uk there are a few on there on sale at the mo!

Cheers, mate. Something to think about. I’ve built desktops before so I know my RAM from my SSDs...

Not too fussed being HP to be honest, just what I’m used to, currently have 2 desktops, 3 laptops and a printer all HP.

Nothing wrong with HP my living room has a few servers and desktops lol
Girlfriend hates my lounge - she wants me to get rid of the purple slate bed coin operated pool table but i just cant - got it for £100 and recovered it and had many a night of jays and beers with the lads on it - sadly now it lies forlorne women just cant play pool!
lol

Is it the schemes fault though? They haven't seen or done the job.

Surely it's the customer who needs to realise it's terrible and then report it?

How do the schemes know?

(As a random bloke and not a sparky - I don't mean to be awkward when saying that, I'm genuinely asking - How do they know it's gone on? how can they react?)

No, the schemes don't know when one of their members carries out a poor job like this.
They would know about it if they were to accept complaints about work carried out by their members from other skilled people, but they don't. They only take complaints from customers.
When a customer complains they just get told to speak to the scheme member directly and get them to deal with it.

And so the scheme turns a blind eye to the complaints whilst appearing to handle them.

At the annual assessment for scheme membership the assessor only sees the work that the scheme member wants them to see. We choose which jobs to take them to, we choose what to let them see or not see, so we only need to do 2/3 good jobs a year to stay members.

I don't see why the domestic competent persons schemes couldn't ask customers directly if they would be happy for the job to be looked at for the annual assessment. Every notified job gets a certificate sent to the customer by the scheme, they could put a note in the envelope with the certificate asking the customer if they are would be happy for the assessor to look at the job when the time comes. I believe the gas safe scheme works something like this, so why couldn't the electrical ones.

Are you a plumber by trade and insured to carry out this work?
Are you fully aware of current water regulations and the current best practices for legionella prevention etc etc?

Nope!!!!!!

But judging by the three quotes we had and the so called plumbers we would be better doing it ourselves.

One guy came in and started turning those taps that havent been turned since 1963 and yip guess what he hadn't a clue that washers dry out and yip 10 minutes after he left we had a leak!

Then we had another who was going to bail the tanks out with a bucket rather than use a pump obviously so he could spin the time out?

Third one wanted £500 - yip!

Nope if a job is worth doing its worth doing yourself.

Besides the other resident who is on these tanks is quite happy to save £300 and do it ourselves!

Plumbers lol
Haven't met a decent one ever in the history of ever!
Sadly!
