hi there this question is in regards to wiring the hotel on the 2365 design project. my question is can i just complete the installation with 4mm all round. the circuits consist of numerous radial circuits and a number of SFCU points for head towel rail and A/C unit. thanks

We used to call them Fused Spurs

Switched or Non switched. With or without Neons.

Ok so the existing protective device I have chosen B 60898 16A with a 13A SFCU (switched fused connection unit aka switched spur aka plastic on the wall with neon in it or however you want to refer to it) would that be sufficient. The details off power and length of run are all in the table. Do really need to use a RCBO ?

What is the SFCU for? The 16A MCB will almost certainly operate before the 13A fuse so really all it does is add an extra point of failure.

SFCU is purely part of design. The idea was introduced to us in class. If maintenance work needed to be carried out on either air con unit or heated towel rad. The work could be carried out with out needing to access the DB

But you have designed the circuit with the DB in the room you're working in?

? yeah the DB is right next to the SFCU. Don’t ask me man I’m just doing what they asked.

It could be a straightforward isolator, such as a 20A DP switch

Single socket outlet.

I always, along with other sparks called them fused spurs. I’m talking about the single outlet with a fuse carrier. Times have changed it seems

Mentioning a ring circuit (not a ring main) and not knowing what a SFCU is? ….
Ask for a SFCU in some wholesalers and you might still get a funny look, though..

Mate I’ve been out of the UK for 7 years. ? The wholesaler especially at Eddies would have told me 2Fook Off. The old fella hated Acronyms.
I’m surprised they never got Rid of “RFC’s” after the 17th edition. The rest of the world sees it as a laughing stock. Every Aussie spark asks me the same thing about it. Always with puzzled looks on their faces.
