Got to get beneath a tongue n groove floor for to access under floor running a cable to a shower

whats the best way to do this?

As Phil above, or you can use an electricans chisel to split the tongue off on one side. The circ saw is the better option, just be careful to avoid any nails!

:) unlike me who had one spit at me and fly back from a nail on the second job i had used one to do them, that safety catch is no dam good as i grabbed the dam thing for dear life :) it was around an inch from my thigh all the way up my face must have been a picture. i thought i had either had it or lost something i will not mention :tt1:

You're not the only one Phil, hence the warning :D

An old boy showed me a method where you run a stanley knife several times down the cap, cutting the tongue. Works a treat with minimal to no damage to the surrounding boards. I used this method on a grade 1 listed building with polished floors that where on show, there was a gap between the boards large enough to use the knife, and when I put it all back it didn't look like they have been lifted :tt1:

Good luck,

so will i have to screw the board i lift back down to blocks?
Either lift at a join in the boards, or cut along a joist (where the nails are :)). Be careful if you have to lift where it goes under the skirting though, you'll find the boards have been laid before the skirting and there will be two nails right on the end of the board.

Sometimes TQ but what we often find is that there is ...about a 3" gap between the wall and the edge of the joist which allows you to "wriggle" the board free.....as above a circular saw or a fein....what i do is use thr fein to cut across the board on a joist (therfore doing away with needing a bearer) and to use the circular saw (remembering to set the depth so as to avoid the plumbers pipes he`s sure to have left in your way) then when you cant get the saw any nearer the skirting board (due to the sole plate)....just finish the cut with the fein. I try to avoid using the fein apart from where absolutely necessary as the blades are hellish dear.....

I use a nail puller and a multi tool.

Remove the nails from 2 boards first, cut the tongue from either side of these boards then cut across the joist at whatever length you need.

I always take 2 boards out cos 1 board with no support on both edges will bounce.
