I have two security lights outside with a motion sensor. Up to a few weeks ago they worked okay but now I switch on, there is a flash from both lights and they both go off. They haven't tripped the circuit breaker but switching on again produces nothing. However, if I leave it an hour or so, then switch on again there is another flash of light and then nothing. I have replaced one bulb but all connections look okay. Is there a simple solution or do I need an electrician?

Is it a stand alone pir detector?
if so then that's your problem, get another one. I'd suggest you phone a local, sparky to install it though !!
There's just one pir detector with two outside lights. But it was working fine upto a month ago - I was just hoping there might be an easy fix I could do myself. Thanks for the advice, anyway. :hurray: Looks like I'll have to call in the Professionals!
