Hello all I have recently moved into this rented property. I wondered weather or not that the light in the pictures below are safe. It is a lamp with a ring bar heating element situated right above the bath and I remember from my theory about zones in bathrooms and what can go in them zones, as it my be me being paranoid but I don't think it is safe, also because the other day I turned on the light and the bulb sparked and smashed in the bath it was a 60watt lamp, if anyone could shed some light pardon the pun that would be brilliant. All the wiring is old has a rewireable fuse box no rcd in there. Many thanks in advance

From a practical point of view it is safe because you will not be foolish enough to put your fingers in it.
The bulb shattering is obviously not ideal but the fitting looks to be in reasonable shape so the light should not fall out normally.
From a regulations point of view the area above the bath is zone 1 up to height of 2250mm from finished floor level.

I hate those horrible fittings, I think they can run at 750w or more and 9 times out of 10 they're connected direct to a lighting circuit- fine in theory if the circuit is properly designed but I've found more than one creating a fault by melting cable insulation connected into the back and the heat even ruins the plaster skim on the ceiling above.

I would argue its 2.25M from base of bath/showertray ie where you stand in bath/shower as you could have a step of two going up from finished floor level to bath/shower.!

I have no problem putting a luminaire above a bath or shower even under 2.25M alsong as correct precautions are in place, alot of my clients would go elsewhere if i refused to put a light above there shower! I would still argue its 2.25 from where you stand in tray! I stand to be corrected if im wrong but dont have any legislation to hand this eve

It would be logical to be from where you stand in the shower however the specific definition is from finished floor level, now you may say that the floor level is the surface on which you stand but this is obviously not that case from the diagrams of the zones.
I had a customer with a shower that had a large step up to the shower and this meant you were almost brushing your head on the light fitting but it was >2.25m from finished floor level.

So if you were sent to a property for an eicr and the light in shower cubicle is brushing your head on a celing rose because the cubile has steps from finished floor level you would only code 3 it? Thats basically what your saying!!
