Hello all I have recently moved into this rented property. I wondered weather or not that the light in the pictures below are safe. It is a lamp with a ring bar heating element situated right above the bath and I remember from my theory about zones in bathrooms and what can go in them zones, as it my be me being paranoid but I don't think it is safe, also because the other day I turned on the light and the bulb sparked and smashed in the bath it was a 60watt lamp, if anyone could shed some light pardon the pun that would be brilliant. All the wiring is old has a rewireable fuse box no rcd in there. Many thanks in advance

I have no problem putting a luminaire above a bath or shower even under 2.25M alsong as correct precautions are in place, alot of my clients would go elsewhere if i refused to put a light above there shower! I would still argue its 2.25 from where you stand in tray! I stand to be corrected if im wrong but dont have any legislation to hand this eve

I agree with having the correct fitting :)
The reg 701.32.3 says finished floor level but if you choose the bottom of the bath then that gives extra clearance :)
Cheers

Just noticed it says Zone 1 does not include Zone 0

So if you were sent to a property for an eicr and the light in shower cubicle is brushing your head on a celing rose because the cubile has steps from finished floor level you would only code 3 it? Thats basically what your saying!!
I was only quoting regulations relating to zones, not regulations relating to suitability of installed accessories for external influences.

I would code a light fitting close to a person in the shower based on the specific circumstances; in the case I mentioned I replaced the downlight with a 230V shower rated downlight on the basis that very few people would change a light bulb whilst showering and no water could get into the light fitting without removing the light.
It was also out of zones, however not quite so suitable for its environment as it might be.

Those fittings were always horrible even when they were new and I have never liked them. I have found a number of them over the years usually on old lighting circuits with no earth and looking worse for wear
