Hi, does anyone know what the typical requirements are for a UK light switch, is 10amp / 250volts considered standard? cheers

must have been some serious lights on the circuit then.

When having a no' of inductive loads its always a good idea to double the switch rating to design current as ive seen so many flashing, welded and crackling switches over the years due to switching numerous inductive lights.

The question you need to ask is whether the switch rating is resistive rating or as should be an inductive rating?

10A domestic switches? I thought they were only rated at 6A,gridswitch 10A maybe.
Sorry folks just checked my Denmans catalogue and it says 10A plateswitch(6A rated)

Would be for domestic use, I'm designing some toggle light switches for a job and I've had to source the mechanisms from China, they're going to be 2 way switches and they say their standard is 10A, 250V I can have them adjust it if theres a need. Obviously they would need to conform to safety standards, I'm just struggling to find out what they are! Would a regular MK light switch be 10A / 250V? thanks for all your help....

All of MK's light switches are 10A/ 250v (as are most) if i remember right

Your average 20A switch is better for outdoor lighting as Live and neutral are Isolated which is handy in the (more likely) event of a fault :)

Grid switches are also common in 20amp and im not refering to DP either volex/crabtree do 10amp or 20amp but domestic standard switches are common in 6 and 10amp ...who wants grid switches in their house :o/
