Recieved a call from a regular client to say one of his properties had a fault on the down stairs lighting circuit.
Popped over to take a look, and didnt take long to figure out the fault.......
He has had an extention made a few years back, and the loft space of this extention was now a new habitation for a few furry creatures.
I popped my head up through the hatch and looked around at the state of the cable and there in front of me was the cable in question, the switch cable had been chewed and now s/l and cpc were in contact with each other. pretty easy to fix i thought. As I was about to come back down my steps to get hold of jb and screw drivers etc i turned around to have a nice look to make sure that was the only damaged cable, to my horror sitting in the corner looking at me all that time was a huge RAT, not a mouse, RAT. Now i'm not the quickest man in the world but i was down those steps faster than current flowing through cable. Believe me when I say it was huge, it was as big as a rabbit, massive.
The last thing I want is to be bitten and get rabbies, after building up courage I was back up with a huge mop stick pokin, prodding but still it didnt want to leave. flashed my torch into its eyes nothing. Anyway i've told the landlord to get rid of it if he wants his lights working in that area, i've disconnected the switch cable from the ceiling rose and they have lights in all areas but in this one. so now its down to him to call me back when the gets rid pf the culprit.

Make sure you carry out strict hygene procedures Veiles desise from Rat pis should be of more concern than Rabbies
A visit to Dogs trust may net you a Jack Russel for your next visit and assist in the removal of furry creatures

Weils disease or a big bite is the worry :)
maybe an idea to fit a plugtop up there when clear and fit one of those plug in things that ommit a high pitch sound to keep the little monsters at bay - anyone ever read James Herbits rats trilogy, sounds like you may have found a mutant :)

Do you know how to use an air rifle? Could add a few ÂŁÂŁ's onto your bill for pest control!!

my sister is a nurse in a casualty dept. one night she was working when a man came in wearing a hood. when he removed his hood she saw a rat had bit the mans neck and lockjawed.he was still attached to the neck.the poor bugger had to drive to casualty with a rat stuck to his neck.
