Recieved a call from a regular client to say one of his properties had a fault on the down stairs lighting circuit.
Popped over to take a look, and didnt take long to figure out the fault.......
He has had an extention made a few years back, and the loft space of this extention was now a new habitation for a few furry creatures.
I popped my head up through the hatch and looked around at the state of the cable and there in front of me was the cable in question, the switch cable had been chewed and now s/l and cpc were in contact with each other. pretty easy to fix i thought. As I was about to come back down my steps to get hold of jb and screw drivers etc i turned around to have a nice look to make sure that was the only damaged cable, to my horror sitting in the corner looking at me all that time was a huge RAT, not a mouse, RAT. Now i'm not the quickest man in the world but i was down those steps faster than current flowing through cable. Believe me when I say it was huge, it was as big as a rabbit, massive.
The last thing I want is to be bitten and get rabbies, after building up courage I was back up with a huge mop stick pokin, prodding but still it didnt want to leave. flashed my torch into its eyes nothing. Anyway i've told the landlord to get rid of it if he wants his lights working in that area, i've disconnected the switch cable from the ceiling rose and they have lights in all areas but in this one. so now its down to him to call me back when the gets rid pf the culprit.
