Lighting circuit for under cupboard lighting

Hi guys we have a lighting circuit under the cupboards in the kitchen and its wired up but isn't working but cable goes into the 2 gang light switch for the main lights in the kitchen. Can power be taken from that light switch?

depending if there is a neutral there, was it working before or is it a new install?

you may have to take a neutral from the main light.

silly question but have you got individual switches on the under pelmet lights and are they on. As said above either a neutral from the lighting circuit or a fused spur from the kitchen ring

Both the cables are twin and cpc. It hasn't been wired up as my dad wasn't sure how to do it. How would it be wired up then?

check if there's a neutral at the switch. this will be 2 blacks (or blues) connected together but not to the actual switch. without knowing this, i can't advise

It has a red and a black (red sleeved) in the one and a brown and a blue in the other

sound like you need a supply to the fittings. honestly, i think it's time to call in a spark. it's not as simple as you think
