Came across a lighting circuit wiring which i had not seen before. And having trouble getting two lights to switch on.

The layout is 2 lights in downstairs hall one light is on its own switch other light i am having trouble with one light in downstairs livingroom on a dimmer.
Upstairs one light in the hall (wired by a two way switch to the downstairs hall light)
Its these two lights i cannot get to come back on. in both the lights there is just a live and neutral so I take it the junction box is in the loft.

I removed the old junction box which had all of the lights and the dimmer switch and single light switch wired back to.

I have not removed any cables only add one for a outside light.

I have no cables left unconnected apart from the live and neutral for the downstairs hall light. The only place i can see to connect these to is the mains feed to the junction box but this just puts the downstairs light on all the time and does nothing to the upstairs light.

What did you replace the old junction box with?
I suspect that the old junction box was basically a marshalling point for switching and supply of lighting circuits. Seen it quite a lot in old houses.

The house has two lights in the hall. One that is on its own switch and the other is on a 2gang 2way switch. With the light upstairs on the second gang.
I have got the light on its own switch working fine.
The other two lights (one downstairs and one upstairs) only have live neutral and earth connected on the light fittings.
The lighting circuit has looks to have been installed by taking 3 downstairs lights and two switches back to a junction box.
The problem I have is now All the lights work on the right switchs apart from the two on the 2gand 2way switch. I have no more cables to connect apart from the main feed to the junction box. Which just puts the downstairs light on all time and does nothing to the upstairs light.
The junction box was changed to wago as i put a new cable in to feed a outdoor light

were all the lights working correctly before you started? if yes can you take out what you have added, then do they work properly as before? then let me / us know what you are trying to do. cheers

all the lights were working fine I had to change the junction box as the earths had been twist together on the under side on the junction with no earth sleeving on and was left touching the heating copper pipes. Also had a earth cable used as a neutral. The job was to run and cable for a outside light.

could it be that the cpc used as a neutral is why it's not now working? that could have been the neutral feed to the lights. try a temp single cable from a known neutral to a ceiling rose.

Looks like you're going to have to replace the neutral. Can't use the cpc for that, DOH.
cpc's outside of junction box and touching copper pipe, wow earth and bonding all in one go, what a result.
