Came across a lighting circuit wiring which i had not seen before. And having trouble getting two lights to switch on.

The layout is 2 lights in downstairs hall one light is on its own switch other light i am having trouble with one light in downstairs livingroom on a dimmer.
Upstairs one light in the hall (wired by a two way switch to the downstairs hall light)
Its these two lights i cannot get to come back on. in both the lights there is just a live and neutral so I take it the junction box is in the loft.

I removed the old junction box which had all of the lights and the dimmer switch and single light switch wired back to.

I have not removed any cables only add one for a outside light.

I have no cables left unconnected apart from the live and neutral for the downstairs hall light. The only place i can see to connect these to is the mains feed to the junction box but this just puts the downstairs light on all the time and does nothing to the upstairs light.

Looks like you're going to have to replace the neutral. Can't use the cpc for that, DOH.
cpc's outside of junction box and touching copper pipe, wow earth and bonding all in one go, what a result.
should have clamped the cpcs to the pipe though. shoddy.

I think he needs to identify all individual "cores" at the JB first! and then work away from there, see what works/switches what? and then proceed, Cant beat Experience, I:E seeing these type of Installations over 20 yrs ago, as like others say, this is how it used to be done, the "old" fashioned way, before we started FEEDING switches etc etc,

It could mean that one of the live feeds are supplying the two switched lighting system...Make sure that any unidentified cables are not return as NEUTRALS which are not in your circuit...Please upload a drawing of your problem or a photo...Most wiring problems are people not marking live feeds or switching feeds
