hey, im after some recomendations, currently got 12 gu10 50w spots in a hair salon, there a warm white and not really bright enough, how much difference would cool white lamps make? also what about LED's any recomendations?

Hi I would go with LED 6000k lamps in a hair salon , we did have done a few now but be careful there are alot of rubbish LED GU10 out there, price isn't everything, The 6000k LED lamp gives you a good CRI which is great for intricate work like hair or makeup!

I replaced all gu10's with jcc firefiard led7's theyre about ÂŁ40 each you can have cool or warm white 10 yr guarantee, low energy usage so will pay for themselves eventually! I even have the dimmable ones in my lounge and dining room so money where my mouth is so to speak.

If you replace them with wide angle LED lamps you might find it seems brighter because there are less shadows from trying to light the place with a load of torches on the ceiling.
A couple of wall lights or lights above the mirrors should improve this further.

Yes we have done a few with some funky up/down lights in between each mirror just to raise the lux level in the working areas, but be mindful not to create too much shadowing as it makes it more difficult to see coulours when colouring hair/nails etc, 45 degree beam angles are great for this type of environment as they are not too harsh, but pay the little extra for a quality LED as lumen depreciation is more aparant on wider beam angles......ÂŁ40 is still high for a lamp and fitting!!!!!!!

These are the fitting and driver and housing all in one with a 10 year warranty, similar to the Halers and the Aurora i9 Sola range. Very popular but not a direct swap for a lamp. Depends on how much work you want to do with a re-wire.

LED lamps have flooded the European market, check out the wattage and 'Lumen' output. To be within a chance of output close to Halogen they need to have 400+ Lumens. If going for a 'cooler' white which is good for colour rendering head to the 4000K colour temperature. Lots of options in GU10, too many to mention be be aware of some of the more wild claims saying GU10 equiv. and has a low lumen output.

;)

Totally agree, wild claims about being equivalent to 50w GU10 is rife in the market place I use a 5w Gu10 and its 399lm at 6000k and 360lm at 3000k we got our independently tested because we use so many and now we use nothing but these, most lamps claiming to be 50w equivalent don't even reach 35w or sometimes even 20w!!!!!! too many cheap chinese imports!!!!

Damn really who's are they, a 5W giving 400lm. I want one, and can get it checked, I know a guy who has access to a 2 mtr sphere. The best I have seen with those lumen figures it a 7W with a Cree MT-G chip inside or a PAR16 size but 8.5W.

Company called Heathfield LED, we found them after looking for LED tubes for a job, they were really good prices and the quality was excellent, we use them for all our LED stuff now, they can get anything LED, they found these GU10 lamps for us

I have seen some fairly good Kosnic stuff, but they only hit 300lm and some Aurora ones which I can't yet get hold off which apparently get to 400lm, Philips use a 10W to get that high, I think it has a fan in the back also. But the goal posts are changing all the time. Not heard of Heathfield, will check them out later.

yeah we looked at kosnic but had a massive problem with the dimming on them! so lost confidence.. plus heathfield let you deal direct but you need to pay up front or buy their stuff through a wholesaler if you need the credit
