Lighting in bathrooms

just wondering what people tend to go for with regards to bathroom downlights, whether it be low-voltage or mains voltage? Always been keen to use LV fittings, but I am finding that with the switch to LED lamps, the LV LED lamps seem a bit gloomy.
Any key pros/cons for either??

I try and convince the customer to go for led like jcc or starlites usually works when you explain the benifits long life low consumption wattage etc.

Like to avoid lv fittings because of the extra hassle with the tranny and feel theres more to go wrong

Phase have just got in these mini downlights from knights bridge 7 year guarantee they look good!

Avoid 12v downlights like the plague, can't understand while people want to spend extra money on something that's so crap

12v down lights are a pain in the backside, especially crap ones with even crapper transformers. GU10 LED IP rated spots are the business. I put 6 in my bathroom nearly 2 years ago, good lighting, no blown lamps, no yellowing of the ceiling or hardening of the cables due to heat, no expensive electric bills. And the best bit, they were about a fiver per fitting, a fiver per lamp, from Toolstation.

As DMC suggested, LED's in my experience aren't bright enough.

Do you still need to fit fire rated down lights if you retro fit a led as you wont have the heat halogen chucks out?

I guess some one could replace with a halogen then you're stuffed
and the cost of fire rated is not much more than open ones

Not the reason fire rated fittings are used matey

Led s are getting alot better now I will be changing over my ones soon

Prefer to still fit 12v at the mo as I can get a better margin

It depends on the installed position of the light, cant remember exactly, but it is in the Electricians Guide to the building regs somewhere.

When it refers to fire Rated, it is the rating of the opening you have created to fit it, not the ability of the light to start a fire. You have to maintain the integrity of the 30 minute fire rating of the ceiling that you have just shoved several 70mm holes in. The construction of the light, when it is correctly installed, reinstates the fire protection rating of the ceiling to what it was prior to you putting holes in it. Hence the term Fire Rated Lights.

I dont half know some crap, i need to read more interesting things like **** mags.
