Hi Guys, Another little query for those of you that do new house installs. Not practical nowadays to wire light circuits via loop in systems due to modern day downlight recessed fittings and or light fittings designed for 1 cable!
If using joint boxes, lets say in a roof space, therefore accessible for maintenance (although i'd rather not use any anywhere) what type do most of you use? Bearing in mind several cables to be terminated. Years ago I would of used a RB4 joint box with a strip of connectors inside . RB 4 (if correct term( was a square box that basically sandwiched the connection strip, choc block as some call them.

The modern replacement for the RB4 is the J701, that's the way I prefer to do it but using wago's rather than choc blocks
Ahh yes, thats the one J701.the wago's are they all connected separately, or do they come in strips bit like chock blocks. I think the way forward is Wago and not choc blocks who sells the J701 boxes?

Yes agree re planning......i've done loop in /out of switches.....even shaver points. but with what customer wants and wall lights etc been difficult not to use joint box. I've reluctantly ended up using one to ease installation. I'll look on wago's web site. i did enquire At Newy & Eyre's, they had nothing.
use an adaptable box, dinrail and the connectors.

legrand make them

I can't see why you don't just loop at the switches?? Why would you want a joint box under the floor boards or in the attic when you've got the option to joint it at an easily accessible place?
None will be under floor boards, never have liked that idea. Job grew / altered as first fixing. 2 ways wall lights, shaver points etc

I was a big JB fan, especially on rewires (occupied), couple of 6 terminal Ashley jb's, cuts down a lot of labour cable and floor boards to lift, I would plan a route normally have them in airing cupboard totally assessable.

Any wholesalers should sell them, I just ask for an RB4 and they know what I mean.

Wago's don't link together unfortunately, it's something I think they could do with though, some way of clipping them together next to each other.

Asked at Newys & Eyres, no joy. does this mean i might have to creep into Screwfix?
The CCTV people had some connectors that were connected separately like Wago's, but have just made them so that they click together side by side. An idea for Wago to adopt?

When using wago/line lever connectors in a RB4, I use a little dab of silicon on the bottom to hold them in place. It lets you make a nice neat line of them.

so who holds them in place for 24 hours while the silicon goes off? double sided tape is quicker.
