i have a house starting eventually, pftt!! there is nearly 40 spotlight in this house. i took the lady round samples last night and she thinks they look crap and i couldnt help saying well so many downlights is crap and then putting them on dimmers is even worse and i didnt quote for this.

so now the lighting is up in the air, i also said i told builder about 75% of lighting should be energy efficent, now she is in a fizzel, wacky woooo.

can she get a grant towards energy lighting? if anyone knows would be great.

if you as the spark were installing jcc or halers would your price go up as working with more exspensive fittings.

would a 400W dimmer handle 500W of halogens. as these dimmers seem the biggest around.

ta thx

perssonally. i'd go with LED.

led (low consumption) gu10 lamps for jcc spots or jcc led spots built in cost more!!
why would you charge more to fit a more expensive light fitting unless it has lots of decorative glass etc. you can only advise on lighting as its personal preferance

well why would i put up 2000 of my money just to earn another 1000 for rest of works

AS already stated, lighting is personal preference. If she does not like the samples u have found, then either ask her to source them herself with some guidance from you (get her some catalogues from wholesalers) then she will see the cost of the fittings and how they vary etc. If this is not a new build, then as i have been advised from my governing body, if the customer does not want to fit energy saving lamps etc then you can note this on your cert that it is their request to not do this (ie the 75 percent rule) Explain that in the long run the 50W halogens will cost more in the long term as energy efficiency ones cost less to run but more to buy from the initial outlay.
I try and always use quality fittings and reccomend this from the beginning, but the customer always has the last say on what they want to spend etc, and this may mean u keeping the job in question or losing it to somebody else?! If they choose a cheaper fitting then i reflect this on my guarentees etc as they tend to have alot more problems after fitting............bloody customers eh!

well take round several different quality of fitting....let em actually see the difference Pablo....some folk just cant grasp it unless its they can actually see it....like in front of their face....

LED's that fit all Gu10 spots and are dimmable are £7 + VAT from National Lighting. Cool white and Warm white. As ukpablo says, give her the catalogues with the trade prices in, let her choose, u get it at discounted price from the wholesalers. And then mention to her about how much money on electric she will save by having LED's. 40 x 50W Halogen = 2000W, 40 x 6W =240W, so having ALL the LED lamps on will be equivalent energy consumption to less than 5 50W halogens. Thats how we explained it to a previous customer who had 60+. We got a phone call the other day saying they couldnt believe how much money they had saved on the most recent lecky bill.

your right mate, i sometimes do but it is also alot of hassle to get these from wholesalers etc and also eats into your own time, if u know what i mean. You can usually weigh up a good and bad customer, and the penny pinchers always want to cut corners and want cheap all the way. Like i already stated, u pay the extra for quality but that also reflects in the finished article....................and thats the parts that will be noticed by the end user.

your right. especially when she having a 50k conversion and a tiny £2k for electrics

No wonder you got the job too cheap, you need to speak to your wholesaler and get commission put on the light fittings for you if your customer buys from them, also get customer to outlay on the lighting you shouldn't have to do it.
Just tell your customer they will get your discounts.
