Hi, I have been asked to have a look at a lighting wiring problem in a rented flat. It appears that since an electrician re-attached a light switch a strange situation has occurred. I have attached a sketch of the wiring arrangement. All the lighting in the property consists of recessed ceiling lights (GUI10 bulbs) they do not appear to be low-voltage. I am wondering if the light switches in various rooms have been used in place on ceiling roses/connector arrangements.

After the light switch in the living room was re-attached the lights in the hallway, bedroom and bathroom can not be switched on unless the living room light is off! Probably the electrician re-connected the wires incorrectly!

Any ideas please.

by the looks of your crudely drawn drawing, all the lights would be permanently on! id start by disconnecting the light switches and belling out the sw/ wires then reconnected properly.

it's a monumental cock up of the first order. looks like it was done by a wet-pants or a gas monkey. fetch the sod back to wire it right, or get a proper electrician in.

The living room switch must be connected incorrectly, by switching it "off" this is obviously putting the supply live to the other switches because it is a two way switch.

It sounds like you should have the arrangement shown below but the loop out from the living room switch has been moved from C to L2 and in hall switch 2 the brown strapper has been moved from C to L1 while the switch line to the hall light has been moved from L1 to C as shown by the red arrows.

But with less smoke hopefully! :) Daz

I think the switch of living room have a problem because when it turn it on the switch cut all the supply of hall way, bath room and bed room.
