Whats the new part L changes in regards to energy eff lighting in new and referbs now. how many LED or Compacts to standards should be fitted.

You correct as of now... 25%

But this will be changing to 70% that need to be low energy,

The good thing about this new change is that they won't HAVE to be the low energy fittings, they can be standard BC or ES holders for example but must be fitted with low energy lamps (which soon will be all you be able to buy anyway)

I installed a few LED lights the other day I think they are the way forward mind u only when the price comes down @ nearly ÂŁ40 per fitting a little pricey :s

Correct me if I'm wrong but the 25% have to be fittings that can't accept incandescents, so GU10, bayonet and screw fit style fittings don't count...which leaves only flourescents and ELV lighting?

I'm rewiring my flat at the moment and its a pain to have to have 2 out of my 5 rooms using flourescents.

Ur right hillbillie, I normally just put a couple in the hall on the rewires, once it's signed off, if the customer puts other lights in after u have gone who's going to stop them ;)

GU10 and other similar lamps with directional reflectors will meet the requirement provided their output is at least 40 lumens/ circuit watt consumed....

Then if your rewiring now you can use normal BC and ES lights see article attached

H:\Building part A to p\Part A-P Approved Documents\Part L\BSRIA article on lighting system efficiencies for Part L 2010.mht

This is what is now good for us in the October changes the normal BC and ES lamp holders will now be acceptable

I can't open the link in your post or find it in the internet....help please.

But on reading the new 2010 Part L pdfs I found, I think the new regs say you can use anything as long as it has a CE mark on it? Am I right on this?

Many thanks.

The article, written in March 2010, states that these were the proposed changes; does anyone know for sure if they have definitely been implemented?

going back to keith sims point on the cost but i have managed to convince customers they will be saving money later on as the led lamp would out last the halogen dichoric lamp by 45,000 hours which if you add up how much this would cost if you used halogen at a rating of 2000 hrs @ about ÂŁ2 a time and also benifit from not pulling much demand thro the meter compaired to halogen led is defo the future but robust recon its going to be 2015 before they are really up to there full potintial in design
