Lights keep blowing / Hoover Trips RCD

Hi

General question, a mate asked his lights keep blowing and when he plugs hoover in it trips the lots?? Advice greatly received

sounds like a faulty hoover and a fault on the lighting circuit

Is he near a transformer or source of vibration they could both cause lights to blow apart from cheap lights. Hoover needs pat testing but sounds like its on the way out.

Nearly all domestic hoovers apart from jurassic age ones are double insulated so you would not expect it to trip an RCD,I'd suspect something else going on and would test for faults on the circuit as well as the hoover.

is it feasible that the socket your mate plugs his hoover into could be wired off the lighting circuit?

Now thats a good point, just PIR a property and they had a socket on the lighting circuit!

Could be the brand of lamp, some of the cheap ones dont last five minutes. Buy cheap buy twice!

moved into a new house once, plugged my welder into a socket in the garage and blew every light in the house when striking an arc, exactly what Chris suggested.
