For the first time in about 20 years I had to make some pyro off today. Did 40 ends and not one of them under 299 meg.
I'd forgotten how much I love the stuff

Today was a good day, the first few were very slow then I remembered how to go about them. Then I accelerated.
Watch, tomorrow I'll screw em all up and get three done:)
40 ends in a day is easy mate, it's only 5 an hour

I was making off imperial ones recently, they were an absolute barsteward! Took me about 20 mins just to strip back per end!

That was all, there was no hidden meaning :)

Probably using a MFT where the max insulation value is indicated as >299 Meg ohms. Which is why we use dedicated IR testers (5 Gig ohms) on our projects, as we need record insulation values a little more accurately to conform to project specifications...

I too like to have a go at making one or two MICC ends off into our fire alarm panels when given the chance. The electricians stand there watching, probably thinking i'm mad... lol!!

I got stitched up at collage by the workshop lecturer when teaching pyro. I really got on with him because we had the same dry sense of humor that others did not get. Anyway, I potted off and tested, dead short!!! Did it again and still a dead short!!! Another 7 attempts later and all had a L-N short!!!

Lecturer says "You've learnt a very important lesson today Paul, when the reel of pyro has been in the storeroom for a year, always cut off the first meter and dont pass it to a student LOL." He found it hilarious watching me getting frustrated whilst the numptys of the class got it perfect the first time! Got stiched up but it was a good laugh :)

I'd never waste a metre of MICC cable, when a heat gun will get rid of any latent moisture in just a few minutes!! lol!! Never known moisture to reach a metre into a MICC cable either, maybe half a metre at most!!

I also had a pyro mistake at college, sorta stitched myself up for it though.

My AM2 assessor thought he would wander over for a chat while I was potting off. I was kinda glad for the distraction and glad he wasn't an invigilating robot that just watched me in silence. He did go on a bit but I wasn't about to tell the guy who was marking me to sling his hook elsewhere.

I got the pot completed making sure the compound was evenly spread, only to realise that through chatting I had forgotten to put the gland and back nut on, and the other end was already made off.

"Oops" he said "that's a shame really, I can't give you another piece now" and toddled off to distract someone else.

I still passed as the MI was electrically sound, just not mechanically.

Flukes only go upto 299

Megger goes to 999 (ive used both)

At college I would make a piece off and test it with a windup 1000V megger (we were posh in them days) and then leave it for the lecturer to tidy up later. Didn’t take him long to remember to shorten out the ends first before picking it up. :devil2:

a mate walked around with a capacitor in a pair of pliers and said here you go to someone.

They didnt half jump
