For the first time in about 20 years I had to make some pyro off today. Did 40 ends and not one of them under 299 meg.
I'd forgotten how much I love the stuff

Hmmmm?I'm guessing they were metric then! lol
I got stitched up at collage by the workshop lecturer when teaching pyro. I really got on with him because we had the same dry sense of humor that others did not get. Anyway, I potted off and tested, dead short!!! Did it again and still a dead short!!! Another 7 attempts later and all had a L-N short!!!
Lecturer says "You've learnt a very important lesson today Paul, when the reel of pyro has been in the storeroom for a year, always cut off the first meter and dont pass it to a student LOL." He found it hilarious watching me getting frustrated whilst the numptys of the class got it perfect the first time! Got stiched up but it was a good laugh

Probably using a MFT where the max insulation value is indicated as >299 Meg ohms. Which is why we use dedicated IR testers (5 Gig ohms) on our projects, as we need record insulation values a little more accurately to conform to project specifications...
I too like to have a go at making one or two MICC ends off into our fire alarm panels when given the chance. The electricians stand there watching, probably thinking i'm mad... lol!!
At college I would make a piece off and test it with a windup 1000V megger (we were posh in them days) and then leave it for the lecturer to tidy up later. Didn’t take him long to remember to shorten out the ends first before picking it up. :devil2:
