For the first time in about 20 years I had to make some pyro off today. Did 40 ends and not one of them under 299 meg.
I'd forgotten how much I love the stuff

There was me thinking we were going to get a good salacious account of Trev's past conquests.

I'm going to PM Dan and ask for my entrance fee back.

And I bet Trev...they will be 999meg when they dry out...
Test gear only goes to >299 meg mate but you're probably right. My tester goes to >1999 but the ones work uses are Meggers (forget the model number)
As predicted I got half a dozen done today and 4 of them were down, little bit of remaking the ends soon sorted that out though

Most MFT's only go up to >299 Meg, as in the majority of cases there is no need to go higher. That's generally the realm of dedicated IR testers...

As I really don`t do much electrical work now, with our partners companies covering this side. I still use separate testers, which although calibrated go up to 999megs, as with fire I only need to prove insulation at 500v and R1/R2 on first fix...with our new fancy Hochiki & Apollo testers proving all other info on second fix including where the o/c , n/c or earth fault is right down to the nearest 2 devices or 10m of cable. But old methods are still the best and an insulation/r1/r2 test, saves a lot of hassle....I personally will not take on a commissioning job without a insulation/r1/r2 test from the electrical conpany.

MFT's go up to >1000M ohms @ 500V btw.

My wife (aka my full time carer) has just reminded me, on that day at collage I came home with Pyro and all the tools loaned from the workshop (not normally done but I was P1ssed off that I did not make one gland off in the class). I sat at the dining room table for 2 hours making them off whilst she cooked dinner. Every one was spot on lol.

Never had to use this skill since! But I know how to do it. And it s a skill. Well done Trev, wish I was on your shoulder watching you mate. PS D/S say hello

Hair dryers!!! Trev you have just hit a nearve with that one mate. I've got an hairdressers shop to rewire and the hair dryers are giving me an headache for the RCD's and the different floors they are on?

Pyro would be a good solution but the customer will not pay for anything more than pvc. Conduit here we come lol.

Give him 2 quotes mate, one for the Rolls Royce job and one for the one you think he'll go for. Don't forget though mate you still have to worry about water with conduit unless you go for splashproof fittings on the ends of them, which will start to rack up the ÂŁs again

Thanks Trev, I'm giving him booth barrels. Owners thinks he can project manage a re-fit with the trades? The Chuckle Brothers would do a better job of it lol.

MFT's go up to >1000M ohms @ 500V btw.

I'm sure some of them do, but not all of them, they don't!! lol!!

My Megger MFT (CM500) i have at home, goes up to >499 Megohms at 250V/500V/1000V. Others as i stated can range between >199 ~ >299 Megohms... Not sure why an MFT's IR maximum value levels need to be so high? (1000 Meg) It's got to add a premium to the cost of an MFT, that most will never need... Pretty much superfluous above 200 Megohms for the majority of installations...

The MFT 15nn have an analogue needle, as well as the numeric display, which hasa scale up to 1000 MOhm and then to infinity, but not beyond.
