Discuss lindsey oil refinery in the Electricians Chat - Off Topic Chat area at ElectriciansForums.net

The interview was live on BBC One outside the plant.

i agree that everyone should be on the same pay if its a Blue Book site but I got to the part in bold and underlined and stopped reading.

The Socialist magazine, just like Searchlight, are part of the fascist left of this country and perpetuate nothing but lies, bluster and mistruths. To believe them would be to believe the lies from the BNP who are also tagging onto this dispute.

Also you have to remember if the union gets offered enough cash to "go away" then your official unionised part of your fight will die and they will tell you to go back to work.

They are the sole reason that the workers in the oil sector are still fighting to this day for 4 weeks paid holidays.

Trust the unions at your peril.

Agree with some of what you say,or should I say it has been known to happen. However the main points I am telling you are the facts , I did work at the site until recently, have friends there now , if you'd read a previous post I stated that what we need is a media savvy person like a Joanna Lumley to get the main points across.
Have read some ofyour posts on other parts of the Forum, you have also worked around a bit so you are obviously not a rooky at this or daft, yet even you are sceptical about whats happening.
As I say its all around us, happening, and getting worse .
Bring on the likes of a Joanna Lumley and get the points across properly for support, the average working man hasn't a chance of being taken at face value against the media and political know how thats being brought on here.
Like you have just mentioned in your post, people are even trying to draw a link to the BNP now,
WHY
To deflect from the genuine reasons and grievances of the workforce.
Who is doing this
The Media and Government.
As we speak the government is again organising demonstrations against the BNP. They have been doing for months now....Linking the strikers with the BNP they believe will get public opinion against the strikers.
As it becomes more apparent whats happening on both counts and the public outcry against this government at the moment, its something that could end up spectacularly back firing and drive people to support the BNP.
They have due to the situation of corruption and immigration already won seats

Im just wary of believeing anything a union says. Personally I have been involved in disputes with them and with companies when they have sold us down the river.

If the Italians are coming in underpaid I have a problem with and support the strike, if they are on blue book rates then I have no problem with them being or working here.

The union would only attract communist/socialist mouth pieces and would detract from the argument trying to be made.

I wont get into a discussion why its a disgrace people voting for the BNP as thats a whole new thread.

Being wary of something is something that doesn't change the issue.
The Italians were brought in and under paid.
IREM the company in question are reknowned for doing this in Italy as well.
As you can see you are wary.....BNP gets mentioned............Foreign workers are mentioned etc.
The Media and the Government (Aren't you wary of these).play on this and cloud the issue

This is the quotes from the original article

"What was crucial in this was not the fact that they were Italian or Portuguese but that they would not be part of the National Agreement for the Engineering and Construction Industry (NAECI).
Why? Because under the EU directives, backed up by the European Court of Human Rights, employing those workers under NAECI conditions would be seen as a "restraint on trade" and therefore against the freedom of movement of labour and capital enshrined in the EU capitalist club's rules and regulations."

These are the facts
Its a similar scenario for Polish Tesco workers being paid more than ÂŁ2 an hour below the minimum wage.

I'm an Everton fan, the so called Peoples club yet we did the same and sacked the staff and employed cheap labour from of all places Malta.

Be as wary as you like, but it is happening all around you..................surely you know people this has happened to, most people I talk to all over the country do.

Yes
seen that Robbo , what an excellent and informative site .
Seems hard to post new topics though.

With regard to the Lindsey Oil Dispute I have a copy of the
NAECI agreement as published for the years 2007-2010.
I will copy and post the forward written within by the
NJC Executive Chairman Jock Simpson in its entirety.
It makes a mokery of what has happened across the Construction Industry.

FOREWARD-by the NJC EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN

The Engineering Construction Industry is critical to the success of the UK economy. The stakeholders in this industry construct and maintain vital projects such as power stations, oil and process plants and deliver other large scale infrastructure investments.

The means of managing labour relationships to ensure completions to time and budget has rested with the National Agreement for Engineering Construction Industry (NAECI) since 1981. At that time the Agreement was ground breaking, and throughout the period since it has enjoyed considerable success. Whilst it has evolved to meet a changing business and labour environment, the Agreement was subject to a large scale review which was completed in 2007.

That review and the new arrangements agreed by the employers and trades unions, party to this new Agreement has the full support of all those involved with Engineering Construction from employees to contractors and clients.

We are approaching a challenging period in our history with a significant number of new build projects to meet environmental targets and projected energy capacity gaps through FGD, new gas plant construction, clean coal plant and nuclear power stations. This Agreement is key to providing the stable framework and mechanisms necessary to ensure that those challenging engineering construction projects are delivered successfully.

NJC Executive Chairman

all contractors employed under naeci terma and conditions have just had a mass meeting and have agreed to remove all labour until wedensday at the sellafield nuclear site in support of fellow workers at the lindsey refineryand will return to work wedensdayand hold another meeting if the issue has not been resolved.

Long may it continue,
"No Pain no gain" as they say.

I was at Lindsey Oil last year and I did work on that job, but decided to go elsewhere.
The job finished January and things are that bad now due to all the major jobs such as this attempting not to use the UK Labour Force that I haven't been employed since.

If we don't strike a blow now the alternative is an ever ending stint on the dole
