I have a customer asking if I can fit a shaver socket in the cupboard under the sink in their bathroom.
Is this acceptable?

Nothing wrong with that at all. If I can have a mains socket under my sink in the kitchen he can have a shaver socket in a cupboard. Dont forget if the cupboard is lockable or needs a tool to open it then its outside the zones if I remember correctly.

Dont see any reason why not.

Thanks Jason. That's what I thought. Seems the safest place in the room to be honest as its quite a small room and there's a mighty powerful shower close to the sink area.

Also, I know they are usually powered from the lighting circuit, but its OK to power it from a nearby socket on the upstairs ring that's backing onto the same wall isn't it? Its an RCD protected circuit.
I can drill straight through the wall into the back of the cupboard...nice and simple! :D

The only tool needed is a hand, Chris!! ;)

Seems like a good idea. I would check that it is Ok to wire into a circuit of more than 6 amps, or you may have to fuse spur it.

Cool. I just had a look at 701.512.2 and Shaver Sockets are fine in zone 2 as long as its unlikely they will be hit with spray from the shower. I'd say that in a cupboard would qualify as being an unlikely spot to receive spray from the shower!!

That seems like a good plan. I could put a DP switched FCU on the back of the wall where I am going to drill through. That'd bring it down to 3A and allow for isolation should it be required for maintenance / isolation.

Why not just spur from the RFC in 2.5 into the shaver socket?

Does the actual shaver socket not need bringing down in Amps though? The way I understand it is that its OK to spur directly from a lighting circuit but you should bring it down with an FCU if you connect them from a RFC.
Course I am sure you could read the BRB all night and still not find anything that says that!! :D
