Hi all,

Advice please...

I am considering having my loft converted but only want to pay for the shell and do the rest myself. Times are hard!!!

I have an old cu that is wire fuse. Will i need to change the cu box and have all the current circuits tested or is there a way to have a secondary cu from my old supply. the loft will need ring, lighting, smoke alarm on three floors to include two current levels and a shower circuit.

I realise that i will pay to have the testing done but really need to keep costs down so the wiring to the cu area i can do.

Any advice greatly received.

Brendan

You haven't grasped it yet, being allowed doesn't make it right!!!

No, not the same difference at all, One CU is where it should be located, the other where it definitely should NOT be located!!! This is nothing to do with opinion, just right and wrong ways of installing an installation, that will serve the installations best interests!!!

We've all see far worse than this, but 2 wrongs have never made a right!!

what i haven't grasped is your good reason why it should NOT BE LOCATED THERE! just saying its wrong does not count!

There is also nothing as far as BS7671 is concerned that would prohibit you running tails to an isolator, then to a hundred henley blocks and running one set to every single device you need to power, with an individual protection device installed for each one.

THAT WOULD BE PLAIN STUPID but, according to your argument, would be a fine way to do things.

You could also prop up your car to change a tyre by using a hundred school kids lifting it, that too would get the job done but be totally wrong.

Why am I still talking?!!!!!! :mad2:

start agen. the NIC want 2 no who carried out the "construction", c the regs. anyone can do the testing. (a non approved tester can complete that part of a cert). the NIC would only b notified of a completed job so no box of fittings an all the certs should b in place!

Is it just me, who has read this, re read this and are still left a little mystified??

Garbage in, garbage out......

But I have a horrid feeling that once this eventually gets translated into something resembling plain English, we're likely to disagree with it.

you would only be able to use kids called"JACK" now jog on or answer the question!

This is like pulling teeth, ....Painful!!!! lol!!

i know just how you feel!
look i understand its hard to accept change when one is stuck in there ways.
but just because it dosen't comform to what you believe is right dont make it wrong as said!

what im waiting for is the hard evidence that this is so wrong!

when you decide your Wyatt Warp and start calling people cowboys u need good evidence to hang someone or r u just a lynch mob with no reasoning just your own narrow minded beliefs!

So ''What's Changed'' then?? I don't believe anything has changed in this respect, apart from the ill trained, ill experienced, and don't give a ---- electricians that are flooding the industry!!

You have had all the reasoning you should need over 9 pages and 89 posts, if you can't or don't want to accept that reasoning, that's fine too!!

Now, if wanting to keep standards as high as one is used too, is being a Wyatt Warp as you put it, that's more than fine with me, there's nothing narrow minded about that, far from it in fact!! I can't honestly see what your trying to defend here, unless you too, seriously think that bunging a 5+ way CU in a loft bedroom is the right way of doing things and serves the best interests of the overall installation?? If so, ...go for it!! ...But you'll Not convince me otherwise...
