Do loft insulation companies just throw their lovely candy floss straight over whatever is there or do they take any measures to protect the electrical installation.

I'm guessing it's the first but I have just learnt that a family member is having their loft insulation upgraded next month and they have asked that I pop around and check their wiring for them.

Would anyone be kind enough please to advise of what protective measures you would be looking to take in this situation?

Are their any tricks of the trade that may help or is just a case of make alterations to ensure that the circuits do not make contact?

Kind Regards

I heard the other day of a loft insullation company laying glass fibre insulation over the water tank, this came in contact with the water and wicked water out and damage the ceiling below resulting in a clain from the house holder.

Enjoy ;)

Poor quality pictures here I'm afraid but hopefully you'll just be able to make out the new cabling nicely clipped up out of the way now ;)

Bathroom lights have now been replaced with IP rated units too :)

those pictures are just shocking. . . no pun intended

why on gods earth have they twisted the CPC's like that, really annoys me and the stupid thing is it would have taken them longer to do that than just do the job correctly and leave it safely first time round!!!

Just spoke to a mate of mine about the quote he had from British Gas for a new boiler, He said that they had fitted a new one and put loft insulation in.
He is well chuffed at the stupid amount of around 9 inches of insulation in the loft, so I reminded him about a conversation we had about his existing cables and in particular the shower cable across his loft.

"They have all been covered he said"

Again we have our chat about cables and ratings, now he is going to charge at them armed with regs and 2 barrels loaded!!!

My sister hasn't insulated above her bathroom because she want sure about the electrics that a qualified NICEIC contractor carried out. (I'm new to the trade)

The lights aren't ip rated and the wiring....... Well look for your self>>

Not the tidiest of jobs.....

Didn't find a pair of knipex cutters did you .....................

Looking at 1shortcircuit nice neat clipping job, I wonder if to save time, now that all this insulation seems to be a norm, that running a PVC trunking around the loft is perhaps a less time consuming way to do it.

All this mess thats installed like this throughout the country on a regular basis, its surprising that the death rate and fire rates are so low

It goes to show that its sometimes not the incident happening event we sometimes make ourselves believe

It seems electricity and poor installations are potential dangers, but on the whole not real life incidents

Bad installation work doesn't have the impact we sometimes think it has, there we are, concerned our trip times are slightly over, or other such concerns

Again, the incidence of fires caused by overheating cables under insulation doesn't seem to be as numerous as we would like to think it is

Perhaps people in the trade have a greater awareness of the potential dangers than the potcher, but the potchers impact is not enough to cause change in perception by the government for anything to alter the situation
