Got a problem, Client wants a loft light fitted. Taken feed bedroom ceiling rose, Connected to live, neutral and earth terminal, run 1.5mm T&E to pull switch and then to new ceiling rose.

Swiched on power, lighting circuit trips....disconnected feed at bedroom ceiling rose, house lights work ok, as soon as I reconnect the new cable the lighting circuit trips....Not sure if I'm doing anything wrong or not.

There are no earths on lighting circuit, BS3036 fuse board. The property was rewired around 30 years ago by the clients husband. Opened up a JB what was accessable , cables being terminated into same terminals, cannot work out what are switch cables and the live/neutral from one cable is being terminated into the same terminal.

Client does not want me to investigate as all the lights work ok, but I would like to know for my own interest. Seems a basic job but I cannot fathom out why it doesn't work as it should.

Basically connected from ceiling rose, line, neutral & earth. connected directly to pull switch, line to line, neutral to neutral and both earths connected together. Using the switch as a on/off make and break.

Possibly would of better of using loop in system in hindsight, may not had the problem. As for walking away the client not to bothered if the job is done or not!!

Are you using a single pole pull cord with a seperate connector block for the neutrals or
are you using a double pole pull cord switching the neutral as well

Agree with davelarave, dead short in pull cord

I agree with a possible dead short at pull switch, but I connected both line cables to L1 and neutrals to common and connected earths to earthing terminal, even tried it vice versa. Maybe not seeing wood for trees but I can't see what I've done wrong???
Any advice greatly appreciated!
