Mate was asking for some advice.
He is looking to put a 100 amp supply into a log cabin he is having built in the middle of nowhere. He has spoke to the electricity board who have said that there is a pole mounted transformer supply approx. 350 metres away from where his log cabin will be sited. He has to build a brick "shed" to house the metering etc adjacent to the pole and then run his cable from there to the log cabin. I estimate taking into account volts drop etc he needs a cable size of 185mm. Obviously a bit big for your average consumer unit! What would you do?

You could inquire to see if the Electricity board might extend their network :) would cost a fortune me thinks, so would laying 350m of 185mm I suppose. If it's not going to be inhabited all the time how about a localized generator.

More likely cheaper to move the cabin nearer the pole:D

Does kinda make you wonder why we have to use cables the size of tree trunks for this sort of thing but the supply companies get away with a bit of wet string run for miles.

If it were me i'd be asking the mountain to come to me not the other way round, thats a very long expensive run.
has the guy who owns the cabin got any land around it with eleci supply poles on it?
its a good negotiation tool if he has.
i've worked on construction of 1,2 & 3 bed log cabin houses .
does he really need a 100amp supply ,log cabins don't take much heating as the combination of timber and mega insulation is as good as it gets.
most people fit a small log burning stove .
how many bedrooms is you friends gonna be?
