This electrician job is going for grabs, please don't post contact details in this area of the forum. Use the forum messaging system instead.
correct similar (same range as far as I can tell). RCBO's would be my first choice, and if new consumer unit does 20 years the cost is probably worth it

I had hoped to find some folk on here, but looks like not many scottish electricians never mind glasgow area ones

thanks all for help so far

Like I said earlier post, I am in Scotland, but the wrong side. Theres 2 or 3 Glasgow members that post frequently - i'm surprised they haven't chipped in

I would have been interested in taking on this job, but I'm already booked for Tuesday.

(just because a van is plastered in NICEIC and Select stickers, it doesn't mean the guy inside is the best at what he can do)

But using a SELECT member or NICEIC approved contractor is still a far safer bet than hiring one of the many 20 year-old boys who do EICRs for £50 via My Builder or Rated People. When a client uses a SELECT or NICEIC contractor they can at least be assured that the contractor is an approved electrician and possesses a qualification in inspection and testing.

An actual picture of my fuseboard

As you can see its well labeled. and loving that taped thing on the bottom

additional bits I want done (maybe not all at once)
- Add tumble dryer to kitchen (there's already a fridge, washing machine and dishwasher, maybe pushing luck ?)
- Add a new socket in bedroom (there's one other side of wall)

I agree completely on EICRs doled out on the cheap. I can understand why some people want them (I know in previous property the PAT testing was dubious shall we say, same guy did EICR....), but I'd rather in informal report done by someone who cares and know what they are doing, over a formal report banged out with minimal (or none) actual inspection or test

so JK Electrical came round today to do my EICR as agreed. Very pleasant guy (as was his apprentice) although my installation I think tested this to the limit. They were very thorough and stuck with it till the bitter end

results (from memory not got report yet)
- RCD on consumer unit is knackered - so CU will end up getting replaced after all
- Kitchen is an electrical disaster area area, but a lot safer now the split ring is protected by suitable RCD
- Alcove lighting was bodged in
- Backboxes were largely a disaster area, very little attempt to use the right size or install straight and level and any screw which came to hand was forced in. Doubts were also expressed as to whether grout/plaster/artex/paint is the best way to fix accessories to the wall :)

Hopefully I'll be getting Jim back in when I'm ready to redo kitchen (the kitchen is need of replacement), although it is possible my place will be the straw that breaks the camels back and he may retire from domestic work - hopefully not

Split Kitchen RFC is OK now it's protected by a suitable RCD?

Well no, the kitchen (oven, fridge/freezer, washing machine and dishwasher) are all on one 16A breaker now, and the RCD is none functional

should read

- Kitchen is an electrical disaster area, but a lot safer now the split ring is protected by suitable MCB (was 32A now 16A)

Thanks Martin, it's nice to be appreciated. :)

Your kitchen is in pretty bad condition, but believe me, I've seen much worse than this. Indeed, the amount of absolutely atrocious DIY abominations that I've come across in the greater Glasgow area this summer has been truly staggering. To say that I'm rapidly becoming thoroughly disillusioned with working in the domestic market would be something of an understatement.

Unfortunately, I can't afford to retire just yet though so me and my astute apprentice will be available to rewire your kitchen from scratch and fit a new consumer unit for you later in the year.

Thanks for your custom and for tolerating my foul language lol.

The landlord does not need to share it with you as for the burning smell the landlord should address this.
