This person requires some work. They've hopefully explained their skills and qualifications and what area they're in. Otherwise, what's the bloody point?

I'm 29 years old, I have worked in retail since school, its paid just enough to get by but that's as far as it goes. I have a young family and want to be able to give them much more than I am currently able to. After a lot of saving and sacrificing I paid to do an EAL level 2 evening course back in September (although it was delayed until November) and have saved to do the level 3 next and plan to follow that with an NVQ. Although I know I'm only a few months into my course I'm desperate to working in the trade and getting some real world on the tools experience.

I study as much as possible outside of college, reading textbook, watching informative youtube videos by the likes of GSH electrical, John Ward and Sparkyninja as well as practicing the practical skills we are learning in class such as stripping, clipping and terminating cables onto a mock circuit similar to college. I have just completed the Health and Safety exam module and scored the highest marks out of the class, I plan to apply for an ECS card as soon as I begin employment.

I am mature, will listen and follow instructions. I am keen to learn, have a clean driving license and a steadily growing tool kit, mostly knipex, c.k and wiha hand tools at the moment.

I would be very grateful of anyone who could offer me any opportunity to work with you. My Email address is [email protected]

Cheers.

Welcome to the forum Sam. When I was on your position being in college and needing experience I placed ads in all of the wholesalers usually around the free tea area. It only takes one tradesman to need an extra pair of hands for a rewire. If you enable people to quickly take your number with a rip off slip or some other idea then ‘they’ don’t have to think too much about it at the time.
All the best. Be positive - you’ll get your break.

With your level 3 course you can get a 24+ advanced learner loan. Nearly all the big colleges will offer them. You dont pay it back until earning upwards of approx 20k I think and then its a couple quid per week.it means you dont need to fork out upfront for it.
Going the right way about it though. I havent any big stuff lined up needing help with at moment. Im sort of shadowing somebody else with installing car charge points. You never stop learning in this job.

I sometimes have working for me a level three EAL. He is not paid or worth much per hour. On what basis do you think you will be working wage wise?

Minimum pay for an adult apprentice is national minimum wage which i believe is going up to £8 an hour soon so I would expect to be earning that for some time. I'm looking to change career so i can do something I enjoy and be proud of whilst obviously hoping to benefit financially in the long term after putting in the time and hard work.
