lower wattage kettles

Just had the Aussie (my better half) go looking for a replacement kettle online and I'm curious to see that the vast majority are now only 2.2kW yet described as 'fast boil'. Have I missed something?!

depends on what you are comparing with. fast compared to 1.5kW. slow compared to 3kW. and super fast compared to ad breaks on sky TV. you can boil the kettle and still be in time to purchase teeth straigtheners or a mattress.

Seems all kettles fail in a couple of years now, whether it is a £10 Tesco own-brand or some fancy Italian named (but also Made in China) brand.

Get a Tesco own-brand and a case of decent wine - better deal!

i bought a deLonghi 3kW kettle and a 4 slice toaster from a charity shop for £8. kettle lasted 7 years. toaster still fine. but needs to be fed with Roberts extra thick bread .

I think the lower rating is another EU idea.

Here is mine from the early 1930s. It is also lower powered, rated at 4.9Amps 200-210V Been using it several times a day for the last 5 years, boiling time isn't that slow.

so that's what you can do with scrap copper cable and a smelter.?
