Found a mains voltage fan on the wall inside a shower enclosure today, just next to the shower head.So am proposing to change to LV Fan and transformer outside, assume fan will need to be IP x4 or above even though LV.Thanks in advance.

is the fan on rcd ?
what IP rateing is the fan ?
i think u can get away with it if IP rating is x4 but it was a long time ago i spoke to niceic about it i saved it and here it it
Thank you for your enquiry to which I refer.

230V Ventilation equipment rated to at least IPX4 can go in Zone 1 with a shower. If there are water jets, e.g. for cleaning purposes, the equipment will need to IPX5 rated.

I have attached NICEIC Pocket Guide 1 for your information.

Regards,

NICEIC Technical.

As long as the equipment is suitably rated for the zone, there are no prohibitions in BS7671 on using LV equipment in Zone 1.
Otherwise we would not be allowed LV showers.

Thanks for reply's.Its all on rcd but not happy with existing mains voltage fan.No access into ceiling above so fan is through the wall just next to the spray head which is flexible,so definitely spray jets.
