I have been asked to re wire a house which has its existing consumer unit (no rcd, re wireable fuses) supplied by an M.I.C from the garage where the meter is fitted. This is approx 4m from consumer unit, unable to identify size of the conducter yet, but in order for this to comply with regs will an mcb suitable for the size of conductor to protect the M.I.C between meter and c.u be sufficient or do i need to change the cable completely?

Gentlemen start your neural engines....

Check out the sticky's at the top of the page (could be in the general section) for M.I.C.C. conductor and sheath CSA's you may be pleasently surprised. To find the cable size look on the sealing gland. Don't fall in to the trap of a seperate CPC. MI will beat anything you put in.
