Looking for a bit of advice here. I am replacing the CU which is currently in a shower room. Now, don't gasp too hard, it's not as bad as it sounds. The shower is in a totally enclosed cubicle with a good extractor, and the room never gets steamy or has condensation. The existing CU is in a cupboard which is diagonally 1.6M from the outside of the cubicle, ie, outside zone 2. The door does not currently have a lock on but easily could, or some other means of securing it but allowing emergency access. There is no other location in the room or adjacent rooms to site it. However, on the other side of the wall is a wooden workshop (yeah OK a shed), that the house wall forms one wall of. It is a substantial, dry, permanent construction. I am thinking it might be better to put the CU in there? Any thoughts?? There is no excessive dust etc created in it by the way. Seems like a better idea to me. I am aware I will need to notify this.

OK, to answer the points raised, and i do wish people would refrain from making comments like "really dumb" which are not helpful or particularly relevant - anyway: Prelim checks have been done, and main earthing and bonding have also been done. I am replacing the CU for several reasons, it is too small, it is in the shower room (as described) and it is also damaged. I think if I was considering installing it in it's current location, then that would probably also attract comments like really dumb?? As I have indicated the outbuilding is substantial and probably will, yes, be there for many many years. It is used as a workshop and is/will be maintained, it is not a "potting shed" I can't see that going 5 yards outside to reset MCB's (how often does that happen???) is a massive problem, compared to having it in a shower room? Is this not as big a problem as I think then??
Ok...thats more like it...

so, what values did you get....?

you know.....Ze, IR etc?

is the wooden building a decent quality building with a proper roof and secure structure?
and equally important as well Mike is has that outbuilding/leanto whatever you want to call it got proper flashings between its roof...and the house wall?....or is it just going to be a case of a smear of mastic...thus allowing water to get past...and dribble down onto the board?...

Well, if it's still dry and standing after the last few weeks, I'll give it a chance
i think its a crap idea....who the hell is going to want to be traipsing outside to start re-setting RCDs etc...or every time a lamp gives up....off goes the 6B ...lol......

the OP just hasn`t bothered to see whats involved with extending the tails....or even bothered to really look in there for a more suitable...and appropriate location for this CU....thats if it even needs moving at all....

HAHAHHA thats picture brilliant. Anyway, IVE SEEN THE LIGHT, be praised. Its going in the cupboard in the original room, which is going to have a moisture proof seal fitted to the door, and be openable with a tool. That means you lot can open it, lol. Maybe shed is a bit daft when a breaker trips at 3 am and it's throwing it down (can i say ****g down on here, don't want to upset anyone else). So, just two things left to say, of course its got proper flashing on the roof, what sort of crap do you think we build here in Derbyshire? and second, I'm still not having this creamflow ****e. Right, I'm not going to post anymore, as I can't stand it when the old lags get started as someone said.

Not bothered???? Right the list: 1. spent 2 days thinking about it and most of today on here. 2. spoke to NIC and now NAPIT 3. Spoke to a C&G approved lecturer. Varying opinions all round. Like someone said, it's down to me, but that comment is out of order!!!

nice to know you went to them first before asking here

Another thread that's got all confrontational and pointless. Sounded like a reasonable question in the first place to me. Daz
