Hi, we have just finally completed a job fully rewiring a million pound plus house including sound and visual distribution, i have just had an email from the main contractor saying:

Please can you email me back labour and materials breakdown and supply all bills for material’s.

as i am a bit thick can anyone explain this to me, and is this normal practice?

Thanks

Was it a fixed price quotation? if so it's none of their business how you got the figure you gave them, providing the works was carried out as agreed and to the correct specification, however if there are extras involved then you may have to give them a breakdown of costs so they know what they are getting for their money.

I wouldn't let him have your supplies bills, they're your prices and i assume like all of us you mark prices up as its your time going to get stuff, just give him prices of everything you've used itemised and put you labour on top

if you have quoted a price for the job, and that has been accepted, then breakdown of materials and labour is not relevant. tell them to get stuffed and stop trying delaying tactics on paying you.

what were your t&c's on payment? if you have issued him with an invoice, he should pay within the stipulated time. otherwise, threaten court proceedings.

If it was a quoted job , i would tactfully tell them to go multiply !
Or get your wholesaler to knock up a fictitious quote / invoice and double all the material prices , then go back to these jokers and say " look fairs fair i made a mistake and i under quoted and seeing as well you asked i take it the end total can go up as well as down" !!!!

----ers like that make my blood boil !:32:

initial quote on my part which was transfered to builders excel spreadsheet on his request and works went forward from there on a gentleman basis (lesson learnt already, and links to simple contracts would be much appreciated). cost of my materials was never mentioned, i thought i was missing something as this is the first/last time i have carried out work with the builder in the middle, usually i am directly engaged by the homeowner.
