cheers in advance

cheers guys any tips for the spot light hole that's too big scenario ? apart from bigger fittings?

Only to make good and re-cut the hole. Problem being is that normal methods of hole filling in plasterboard won't work; you have to cut a hole in what you've just fixed....unless you can get access from above, in which case bond a new bit of plasterboard from above and re cut it (filling the hole below of couse). Golden rule measure twice cut once ... and if you're doing a lot cut a hole in a spare bit of plastboard (ply) first and theck the fit (and the clearance above if it has an xformer).

Cut a bit of board a tad bigger then the hole but in a shape that it will fit above the board, but attach a bit of string to it, dollop abit of adhesive on the edges so it sticks to the other side of the board, you will be left with just the hole, a bit of board 1/2" above the hole and string hanging down, snip the string and fill in the hole with one coat plaster. Jobs a gooden.
