Hi All,
Has anyone else had issues with this model of drill ?. My boss has one as do I both of them are roughly the same age (3 years). His has lost the hammer action and one batt has died completely, mines lost 3rd gear and both batts charge and discharge in a bout 2 mins.

Just fired of a mail to Makita to see if they can help out with repairs etc.

But just wondered if this was an isolated case or not.

Cheers,
Lofty

My one is now naked as some **** walk of with the battery and charger last week. It had the gear box and trigger replaced just before it ran out of warranty.

I have replaces it with a Panasonic Tough IP drill.

Definite trend here with the gearboxes. On the Makita website under the support tab you can bring up the exploded diagram and on the gearbox there's a PDF tab with details of the modification to the gear selector.

I have had 2 gearboxes replaced on different 18v makita combi drills over the past 5 -10 years and I have a 12v makita which I don`t use much anymore because the gearbox is on the way out.
The batteries I find are the worst bit with them I have a few of the old red NI-CD which are still going strong, I have a few of the black NI-MH batteries left but they are on there last legs and even when they were new most of them were replaced under warranty after a few months because of a bad batch.
The LI-ION 18v are a joke after only 2-3 years 3 out of 5 have died and will not charge at all.
