Matt has tagged along with me a few times for some experience whilst starting his Level 2 at college. The other week we installed a 33m run of 10mm 4 core SWA cleated on a white wall (so it sticks out like a saw thumb if done wrong) and Matt did a great job of it. This was his first time on anything like this so hats off to him, even the customer was impressed.

Today we hooked up the 6x SY 5 core 6mm cables to the new 3ph dis board and I let Matt do most of the terminations. (again, the first time he has had a play with a 3ph DB and SY). A really good job mate, proud of you for your first time. (photo to follow).

Matt had to leave before me so I finished off the banding of the cable and label up the new DB, test and cert. "Wait a minuet, were are the bloody screws for the front panel?" Matt has them in his pocket the pratt! Schoolboy error mate. Always check your pockets before leaving site lol. Not a biggie mate, I've waked away with the keys for the services room before now and shut down the entire site, electrics, plumbing and gas pmsl  I got a right telling off the next day. I cost the building firm about a grand in down time, whoops!

A note for trainees:- Check your bloody pockets before leaving site lol.

Matt, I had "something in the back of the van" that fixed the it (I always have something in the van that will solve a problem) so not an issue mate. Just remember for next time....... (these are the things they dont teach you in college).

Hope you like your new set of VDE drivers? Just a little present that will help you on your way mate

Well done m8 great post. Mike

Haha was waiting for the slating from Paul about the screws !

But once again, thanks to Paul for the brilliant experience and knowledge he has given me, I really appreciate it

Really enjoyed the learning experience, much different from the college work we all do as trainees on a small mdf board which is more or less useless if you ask me, in the sense of real working environents, AS A TRAINEE, YOU CAN NOT BEAT PROPER ON SITE EXPERIENCE WITH A ELECTRICIAN WHO KNOWS HIS STUFF AND WILLING TO PASS IT ONTO YOU

As for the drivers, im very thankful mate, didnt expect anything from you,I was more than happy just to learn some of your knowledge and to be able to have to hands on experience whixh trainees as myself struggle to get, but thanks again, brilliant !

look forward to a couple of beers before christmas

Cheers

Matt

I hope you've shown him how to use the accompanying Neon screwdriver properly?!

Schoolboy error Part 2.......

Any self respecting Tech would carry a sufficient selection of fixings to overcome such eventualities without any drama! :smilielol5:

Haha, funny you should say that Archy, when I first met Paul, one of my jobs was to 2nd fix some sockets, so...pulled out my neon driver that I grabbed from home, went for a pee, next thing I know it was on top of the rubbish pile swept into the corner of the room

First lesson learned

Matter of fact, im sat having a pint at my local right now, and theres an "electrician" changing a load of 12v downlights walking round with a neon driver hanging out his mouth haha !

yep.great post. good to see there's still trainees with a pride in their work.

Cheers Mike and Tel. Although he is just starting out, he has "got it". You know what I mean, when a trainee is asking questions, interested in what they are doing and "why", understanding what they are doing and "why", following instructions and doing a good job of everything he dose.

Matt has only ran the first mile of his Marathon but believe me when I say, He will make it to the finishing line.

As per Sparkysharky, she is in the last 2 miles of her Marathon and dont I know it! Every 2nd day I get a phone call asking me C&G questions about testing, equations, earthing systems etc etc etc.... She has worked for me several times over the past two years and she will become a great electrician. She works sooo hard at it, she wont fail, and I wont let her. She has become a good friend of myself and my wife and I love her to bits. Hope she dont see this, I'll get a punch in the head from her for being soppy lol.

I dont know it all. But I will teach what I can to others that deserve it and learn from others anything that I dont understand fully. That was a statement from a professional
electrician that cares about his trade and workmanship.

can i come and work for you...... pleeeaaasssse . :sifone:

If only I could afford you Tel. You would be head spark. I'm a good boss, I even buy all the breakfast butties and coffees. Ask half a dozen members on here that have worked for me lol. Ok I have worked for about 4-5 members on here and they think my work is ok. No one has died yet (although Trev and Durhamsparks got a shock!! Nowt to do with me, and yes is was funny watching Trev getting a belt and blowing holes in his snips pmsl). Safe isolation kids LOL

The way things are going atm Tel, a mate of mine may have a few days work in your area in the new year. Nothing big, just a day here, a day there kind of thing. Easy stuff (showroom display units) but it may be worth sending you the work instead of me or him travelling. I'll have a word and see what I can come up with. BTW its a national company so I wont expect a quick response from them. Need to line up the area of shops that they are doing and in what area.
