MCB did not trip

had a call from a lady today saying that when she turned her lights on in her dining room she was plunged into darkness last night. All her other lights and sockets were still on so i thought simple call to rectify problem as it should be a case of blown light fitting to cause mcb to trip ! on calling today, all mcb's were on but no lights downstairs
rcd had not tripped either, pulled the mcb down to show her what it should of done, then pushed it back up to on and hey presto lights any ideas ?

Obviously it did operate then. The lever did not move position by the sounds of it. Is it stuck?

sounds to me like the mcb did trip but did not knock the lever down. Seen this once before. My advice would be change the mcb as it is faulty

seems ok, moved it a few times when i was there, one of her downlighters had blown so looks like there was a short but no movement of mcb took place

just had a thought, this is a wylex 6a mcb, is there not a recall for these ?

I BET IT'S A WYLEX TYPE b mcb

With some MCB's / RCD's the lever does not drop down to reset it you have to pull the lever down then back up to restore power

Old Type square d's do the same look as though they are on pull down push up to reset ,had a newbie spark spend two hours trying to find a fault felt sorry for the guy after he called me to help him and all i did was pull down and rest

yep Change the MCB
