I wondered what tips people have for measuring roof areas for pv?

I have been estimating, which has worked well on 2 installs but on 2 other ones i had to take 2 panels off the quote!

I have been estimating, which has worked well on 2 installs but on 2 other ones i had to take 2 panels off the quote!

The best way is to actually get up there and measure with a tape measure. I bought a long ladder with a stand off, and an 8m tape measure.

The inside of the roof is the same as the outside!

Measure from in the loft. Get length, width and pitch angle.

Works for me.

We use a laser level - accurate measurements are important to avoid nasty surprises on site!

Either:

1. Measure from inside the loft.
2. Measure the lenth and width of the roof from the ground then use an inclinometer OR count the tiles.
3. Get a ladder and a surveyor's measuring stick - best method in my opinion and the way that we do it.
