Hi can anyone give me a procedure to measure the Ze value of a house? I am currently studying to become an electrician and I am very much a rookie so please be patient with the baby step questions :)

with all due respect, this is a live test and as a rookie you should not yet be attempting it. by all means we can tell you how it's done, but this should be part of your training at the right point in your progress through training

If you are studying to be an electrician then you'll be on your third year by the time you learn Ze tests. How much of the testing and inspection area has your course tutor covered with you?

Thanks for all your replies. I should have mentioned that this is for research purposes only.

So when testing i.e. a ring main would you use Zs=Ze+(R1+R2) or would you simply use the loop tester and test at each socket?

i would test each socket outlet . as this is done by plugging the tester into a socket, there's no reason why you shouldn't have a go, supervised, of course, by the spark who is allowing you to use his MFT.

but as has been said here already.....its live testing mate that will include a safe isolation (if doing a Ze).....so get used to doing an accurate, reliable R1 R2 first before moving on....

I have not even finished my first year yet, however, I believe that I don't have to have started topics in college before I can learn about them. I am new to the trade game (went down the university route) and I am finding this absolutely fasinating, I have never been so interested in something before!!

what you have to remember here wyllis...is what you will usually find is direct readings of Zs are lower that those acheaved by calculation....so...why do you think this is?...take a look in the OSG and GN3....
And remember that a safe isolation should always precede a Ze test...again,...why is this?.....
