Sell them all and buy a 1552 off tinterweb for 250. Use the spare 5-700 to buy alot of beer. Drink beer. Experience no testing problems.

Any news on the new v1.09 firm ware fixing the RCD/RCBO problem. I sent mine back due to a constant large discrepancy between high and low current loop tests. Does anyone else suffer from this on the 1730?

Megger explain the fluctuating readings by saying the meter will only give accurate reading to 0.1ohms this seems poor as the Fluke equivalent offers 0.01ohms.

The reason I mention it is that I'm still interested in the meter as I find three lead loop testing a nuisance and having to press 'test' whilst fault finding unessarsary.

It would be interesting to know if the new V1.09 firmware upgrade has fixed the RCBO tripping issue?

I had two 1730 MFTs and they both went back due to the large discrepancy between the high and low current loop test results (high was always the greater value). Has any one else experienced this whilst using the meter?
Also a loop test could be performed at the same point several times with a different value every time, it would be great to know if this has been resolved too?

I would still like one of the units as the two loop is a great idea in theory and the auto test is also great but it's all useless if random values are given and the low current loop test trips RCBOs.

Also Megger please keep your site up to date so users can check their firmware and existing faults out....not too much to ask considering the cost I think.

Well said mate, it's scandalous that this issue is still going on. If this was a car the VOSA would have issued a mandatory recall by now ... Megger appear to have adopted a mushroom consumer relations policy ... feed them enough manure and keep them in the dark.

I'm thinking of buying the 1730, has this issue been resolved yet?

Megger say that Firmware version 1.10 has fixed it (as 1.09 was claimed to and failed, again!), but I'm unable to verify this at present, my guinea pig (apprentice) will be carrying out a field trial next week. However, there is a temporary work around, i.e. reverse the polarity of the two wire test leads, which works for virtually all firmware versions in most cases.

As Trypod has indicated there have been multiple updates in recent days (more empty promises!). As soon as there appears to be a stable firmware we will conduct another trial. This protracted situation is sure to be denting Megger's previous good reputation.

Just received a loan MFT1730 from megger whist mine as the latest no trip firmware upgrade. The loan tester's version is 1.13 so fingers crossed

Hi guys,

I am recycling this old thread as it seems to be on topic.

I am currently writing some reviews for the megger 1700 series, I have each of the three models at my disposal and what I would like to know is if any of you are still having trouble with them - and what version you are on.

The models I have are the 2.01 and all seems to work okay, whilst one of my students had the same model (the 1720 in this case) and his was 1.26 or something. His was tripping Wylex RCBO's and noticeably, a couple of the selectable options such as 2 lead no trip were absent on some of the selection possible.

So, is anyone having any trouble/complaints with these MFT's still?

Thanks

widdler
