Afternoon all

Just bought myself a Megger 1552 and the battery life is showing a 3.2 at the moment - what is the lowest it is safe to work on before I replace the batteries? I understand that a low battery may have an effect on the results...

many thanks

use good quality alkaline batts. as said , any thing under 10v will give you headache.

I've found anything below 10 it starts going screwy. Batteries will still be good for torches and kids toys.

Just bought some on ebay - £6.59 for 20 energiser industrial ones - thanks for the advice - good to know that I was on the right wave length
have a good one

apart from eating batteries, the 1552 is about the best tester you can buy.

it was the one that I did my training on so I thought it would be a good start and I like the simplicity of the set up. so its good to hear an approval

Are you sure your not getting mixed up with the display reading.

Turn the unit on and the voltage of the batterys is the second set of numbers displayed.

On mine it shows U 3.5 first then the battery voltage. (Displayed for about 5 secs)
IMO 3.2 volts and the unit would just shut down instantly!

Hello Busy Bee

Some MFT1552 testers display the battery voltage by switching the tester to the off position and pressing the yellow 'TEST' and red 'LOCK' buttons together, while the remaining testers briefly indicate the battery voltage when the unit the tester is first switched on. (V3.5 is displayed first followed by the battery voltage).
Generally the batteries in the MFT1552 should be useful down to about 7.5 or 8.5 volts. The continuity test is a large drain on batteries in any make of continuity tester and on the MFT it is the first function to fail when the batteries are low.

perhaps you could answer me this: my 1552 passed calibration on all functions except continuity ( new batteries, and the calibrator tried different leads). at the moment i'm using a calibrated BM401 for continuity readings as the response from megger was £300 to fix. as the 1552 is 5 years old, that's not an economical repair. surely a minor fault like this can't justify £300.

Hi all
Thanks to everyone for your comments and I have checked again holding the red and test buttons and it is showing 9.9. So all good. What confused me is that the 3.2 came up, then the screen went blank then the normal display. No sign of a battery level shown. But now I have learnt something new!
