I have just acquired a new MFT 1720 as my master meter.

Why are the probe/croc leads coloured RED,BLACK and Green. Why not BROWN,BLUE and Green.

The outlets on the meter are Red,geen(black) and blue.

On the fitted plug mains leads they are Red,green and blue !

What's the logic red and black are always + and - i guess ?

Anyone work for Megger on here ?

Currently there is no requirement for the leads of test equipment to be in harmonised colours, so manufacturers can use what ever combination they see fit. However I believe there are draft amendments to BS EN 61557 and BS EN 61010 which propose harmonised colours for electrical test equipment leads if the Eurocrats get their way.

Hello Roger

As MarkieSparkie has mentioned there is no requirement at present for testleads to have harmonised colours
There were amendments made to the testlead standard 61010-031 last March but primarily these were CAT rating and GS38 changes.
For many months, following the changes, we had compliant testleads that were red/black/green. Currently today the colours are red/blue/green
Both these diffent colour leadsets are perfectly safe and fit for purpose.

Kind Regards
