Hi all, I'm new to both this forum and PAT testing. I've been given a Megger PAT2 to use but it's missing its flash testing probe, so I can't use the tester for Class 2 insulation tests. I'm not hopeful of getting a spare from Megger themselves so can anyone advise on a replacement? I'm afraid I don't know what the fitting is. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

The PAT2 tester is now rather old and it may be difficult to get spares for it, but there do seem to be quite a few PAT2 on ebay and the like and it may be possible to get an entire replacement unit for less than the cost of a new probe.

However I am not sure what test probe you are missing as a flash test is one that is undertaken for type testing of a piece of equipment under initial construction and is very rarely used to test existing equipment and certainly not in a PAT environment.

Class II insulation tests are undertaken using line and neutral joined together and using a probe at points of potential weakness of the insulation or points where conductive material may accumulate.

Point taken about flash testing but, if I'm understanding the operation of the PAT2 correctly, the same probe doubles as the insulation testing probe.

That's correct (see here, page 11: http://www.biddlemegger.com/biddle-ug/PAT2_UG.pdf)
Same as the old Seaward PAT1000S & PAT1000IT units: black croc-clip lead for Earth Bond, red spring-loaded probe for Class II Insulation and Flash tests.

Later models by most (if not all) manufacturers ditched this arrangement, and had the clip lead for both Earth Bond and Class II Insulation, while the red probe only does Class II Flash.

Personally it would annoy me having to use adaptors all the time. Can't you buy a proper UK one?
