Megger PAT3 Tester - Can it be used on IT & Sensitive Equipment

Hope I'm in the right bit for this question

Just recently acquired a Megger PAT3 Tester which will be used for 110v leads / tools etc at work

Then the question came will it be able to test the office equipment - it will be ok for the kettle etc

BUT will it be ok for testing the Computers etc

thanks in advance

Martin

The PAT3 is an old, basic tester that IIRC has no leakage test capability, and only one earth bond test current. If you know what you are doing, a high current earth continuity test can often be applied to IT equipment, but if you make a mistake things can get fried.

Your risk assessment might indicate that the PAT3 is sufficient for your application, but even 20 years ago we expected more from a general-purpose PAT tester. I would not be happy sticking a pass label on a large photocopier without knowing its leakage current.

Thankyou for your reply
