Discuss Memera 2000 fuse box...is it legal now in the Periodic Inspection Reporting & Certification area at ElectriciansForums.net

as long as it's safe and complies with BS7671, no problem. i assume you mean because it's not metal cased.

Someone is telling porkies and only wants your money. Not ideal but not illegal.

Could you possibly post a picture to confirm?

it's not up to current regs., but would have been compliant with the regs. at the time it was installed. i would recommend upgrading, but only as a recommend. a bit like an advise on a MOT.it's a matter of choice whether you want to improve the safety of the installation, but not necessary.
there are 3 categories used on a condition report...
C1 is immediate danger. installation unsatisfactory.
C2 is potential danger... unsatisfactory.
C3 is improvement recommended, but satisfactory. i.e safe for continued use.

at worst, the CU might warrant a C3.

Thank you that is very helpful. Any ideas on costs?

ÂŁ350 is about right for a dual RCD CU. if you were to go for RCBOs, though, it would be more like ÂŁ500+. that is assuming that there are no faults on the installation that require rectification.

I was given the estimate of ÂŁ350 plus ÂŁ350 for an electrical certificate

ÂŁ350 in total or ÂŁ700 in total ? Certificates after consumer unit changes are not extra or optional, they are usually included in the price. Or do you mean ÂŁ350 for a report you have had carried out already ?

The unit itself is not illegal nor will it fail an inspection on its own.
However the report is considering the whole installation and there are a number of reasons why RCD protection would now be required for some of the circuits which aren't protected in the current installation. These items could be either recommended improvements or potentially dangerous and often the most sensible way to add RCD protection to multiple circuits is to replace the consumer unit.
