i would get those holes lined with either T&E sheething as has been suggested...or grommets....its not just about the weight of cables bareing down in thise edges.....its installing/pulling those cables through as well.....why take the risk as any unseen damage will only manefest itself at testing stage when all the cable`s are in......

I did some new builds for a firm a few years ago and did'nt like using rubber grommets as they would fall out if anyone wiggled the cable ,so I used to get 25mm,to 20mm plastic conduit reducers and borrow this flooring glue the chippy had drop them in with a drop of glue and you could'nt get them off ,another similar item was a plumbing accessory can't remember the part name or number, will look , but they were 20mm plastic tube 35mm long with a rounded lip and these worked well in the 20mm holes with the same method.

Imagine the pain in the arse getting a call back to fault find on one of these installations. I would have to take care and ensure there is no risk of damage. That little extra time looks professional and will save you the cost of having to pay for re-boarding/decorating etc just because a little time wanted to be saved.

Is it worth the risk? That's for you to decide but I know what I would be doing ;)

Tel has a fair point. If you drill 25mm holes ioj the rails, you can thread 20mm tube through it, and l;eave a gap where sockets will go. Not a conventional conduit sytem, but a damn lot better than just stringing it along the ceiling and dropping down.
